Battle of the Books

In Battle of the Books you get to read books. After you read, you get to have buzzer battles. In the buzzer battles you have teams. The teacher asks you a question about the book you read and if you think you know the answer you buzz your button. If you get it right you get a point, on the last day the team with the most points wins the Battle of the Books in the library.  If you win on the last day you get to have 2 extra books the next time you go to the library. The person who runs Battle of the Books is Mrs.Meimers, the librarian. Sometimes you get to watch a movie, at the last day you get to have pizza. Also you do not fight with books!

Fire Safety Day

In October the firemen came to Southeast School. They told us some facts about fires. For example, a hose weighs between 30 and 70 lbs and about 140 lbs with water. Also they showed us around the fire truck.  Our teacher, Mrs. Cackowski, even put on all the equipment that a firewoman would wear. She sounded like Darth Vader when she was breathing through the mask!  She looked cool!  It was a great day.

Running Club

Running Club meets every Friday in the gym at 3:30.We run out on the trails in Mansfield Hollow. But first we get signed in. On rainy days we run in the gym with music or we run in the hallways. If we run and get 20 holes punched in our cards we get a toe token. A toe token is a little colored foot you can put on a chain and you can wear it on your wrist.   We get one snack every time. It is usually something healthy like apples or oranges. On the last time Running Club meets, we will get glow in the dark toe tokens. This club is for 3rd and 4th graders only.

The Southeast School Mascot

Did you know our school mascots are eagles? Their names are Ethan and Emily. Ethan has a blue cape and Emily has a pink cape. Ethan and Emily live in the Enrichment Room if you'd like to see them.

The mascot's nest

Did you know that eagles have been the national symbol of the United States since 1782? Bald eagles were on the brink of extinction and they are still endangered. Another fun fact about eagles is that female bald eagles are a bit bigger than males.
